American gospel singer Kirk DeWayne Franklin widely know as KIRK FRANKLIN bagged an award for the best gospel performer for his song LOVE THEORY at the just concluded GRAMMY AWARD held in Los Angeles.

Kirk Franklin is a renowned Gospel pop artist and choir director, Author and song writer. He has led choirs like THE FAMILY, GOD’S PROPERTY, ONE NATION CREW and many others.

Kirk Franklin grew up in Fort Worth, located in the city of Texas. Abandoned as a child by his mother, his aunt Gertrude raised him and recycled aluminum cans to raise money for young Franklin to get piano lessons which he began at the age of four. He started well and at age seven he got an offer of a music deal which his aunty turned down, possibly because he was still young.
few years later he became the choir director for an Adult Choir at the age of eleven.

He had a couple of street issues like many American young adults and got a child from his pregnant girl friend. At the age of fifteen he came back to church and continued with leading the choir and they got bigger after his return.

In 1992 Franklin organized a group called The family, a seventeen voice choir and Vicki Mack-lataillade a co-founder of the GospoCentric (a record label in America) heard one of their tapes and was impressed, so she signed them and they came up with the name KIRK FRANKLIN AND THE FAMILY.

The new group released their debut album “Kirk Franklin and the family” and it spent almost two years on the Gospel music charts. it even charted on the RnB charts and became the first Gospel album to sell over a million units.
This was the big break for Franklin and though later in 2000 members of the family filed a multi-million dollars suit against Franklin and GospoCentric records for their royalties for The NU Nation project and this saw the end to this wonderful group.

Kirk went solo and recorded his first solo album “The Rebirth of Kirk Franklin” at the Lakewood church which was released in 2002. it topped the gospel album charts for 29 weeks and was no.1 on the hot RnB/Hip hop charts. it eventually became a platinum Album and since then he has won fifteen Grammy awards adding up this recent one making it sixteen whooping Grammy awards.

In 2013 Kirk Franklin started his own record label FO YO SOUL RECORDINGS which is in association with RCA records. He signed artists like TASHA PAGE-LOCKHART and a sensational group THE WALLS GROUP. His label has been doing real good for themselves as they have raked in lots of awards.
Around this time last year Kirk Franklin released his new single LOVE THEORY with an official Video to the song.
Currently married to Tammy Collins, the couple are blessed with four children and we can say the Lord has been good in their lives.

At the awards night Kirk Franklin said some words, in his words “Gospel music has so many incredible talents and I’m so humbled to be in that category with some of the greatest to ever do it,” said the singer at the 2020 Grammy Awards. “I am such a fan of all these incredible men and women that I get to tell the world about Jesus the King because it is all about Him, amen?”he also extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of The victims of the helicopter crash which involved Kobe Bryant, his daughter and seven others.
